Hi

Heart failure, on ADL AND ESA, retired early. My husband and I own a little house but im desperate to get out. I dont want to disrupt him as he has problems. Prepared to move out to a tiny place. But would need a bit of financial help for private renting? Is citizens advice best place to ask ? For advice

I would imagine Citizens Advice to be a good place to start.
Have you considered also your local housing association? I live in a lovely little bungalow surrounded by lovely, quiet neighbours and I'm renting through a housing association.
Edit: Forgot to say - Welcome! 😄

Hey there @ancath63 and welcome to the community from me too. 😁
As WW has rightly said, you can contact Citizens Advice, they're more equipped to deal with this kind of question. And housing associations are definitely worth looking into.

Hi,
As you're below state pension age then you would have to apply for Universal Credit in order to access the Housing Element.
However, if you have savings over £16,000, or own a property that you don't live in, then you won't be able to claim UC as it's a means tested benefit. It sounds like your situation is not quite that simple if you would be moving away from your husband though. So Citizens Advice or Shelter might be able to offer some more tailored advice specifically for your circumstances.
