Hi all I'm jono, thanks for having me here, so I'm a disabled person I'm 42 years young and I have got a lot of issues the list is below,

So firstly I have epilepsy and something called complex non epileptic seizure disorder, I also have fibromyalgia and cfs, I'm also autistic and dyslexic and have diverticular that's ruptured 3 times in 3 years twice ended up with sepsis, I also have hip dysplasia, I'm on UC and get ADP (Scottish pip) I've had to come to terms with not being able to work anymore and that was hard, very hard if I'm honest, my wife of 23 years now works and I have daytime support from my 21 yo and my 17 yo when there not busy, I do try to keep myself busy with hobbies and that does help some what, at the moment I'm struggling a little with my mental health due to inactivity that's caused a bit of weight gain I think it's more my self confidence taken a hit maybe just the way I see myself, but the Drs don't help saying your overweight when you go in for checkups ECT, but anyway enough wallowing that's my introduction and I hope to chat to people soon :)

I love to grow vegetables in my greenhouse also am learning hydroponics for herbs and dwarf tomato plants, I have a special interest in computers and technology not much I carnt fix tbh but due to health issues I find it increasingly hard even to maintain my hobbies, I do have a very good energy monitor to remind me to take rest or a nap ect so that's a plus :)

Ah, we have many community members with green fingers/thumbs here, so you're in good company. We also have a fair few tech enthusiasts, me included. 😁

So what're you growing this year? You might like this discussion where we're all talking about our gardens and greenery.

I'm glad you've got that energy monitor, I know how tricky things can get when you run out of 'spoons' as the saying goes.

It's a hard balancing act getting the right amount of spoons I end up growing spoons quite often leaving me pooped and out of spoons about 4 days into the week but it's just the new normal I guess lol, I am growing potatoes carrots turnip coliflower broccoli sprouts onions tomato peas beans leaks everything needed for winter soups really lol 😂 I'm not one really for flowers as I like to eat what I grow 😂 I know flowers are pretty but not really tasty lol as for technology I got a masters from the open uni over the last few years would love to go for a doctorate but lack of funds now as I've used all the funding available to get my masters lol

Haha, I'm glad you put that edit in there, I was feeling pretty jealous that you could grow extra spoons! 😆 Sounds like an epic harvest for soup though, an excellent choice.

Oh wow, so if we run into any technical difficulties, you'll be the person to contact then. 😉 I think there are disability grants for further education, I'm not sure how far up you can go with them though, but it could be worth looking into if you haven't already?

In Scotland you get a total of 7 years worth of grants (bursary) for further education after collage, after that you fund it, although the corse fees are payed by the government if you attend a physical university this doesn't extend to open university, so it took me 3 years for my bachelor's and 3 more for my masters so I have 1 year available but a doctorate would take 3-5 years to complete so would be 2-4 years that I would need to fund just not available to me and attending a physical university isn't viable for me as I wouldn't be able to keep up with the work load and speed that they operate, but hay I'm happy with what I have achieved didn't think I would get that far lol 😂

And you should be really proud, you've done a load more than many able bodied and brained people. I know I'd certainly be stoked. But I get the want to do more. It feels like you've watched season 1-9 of your favourite show, but you're being stopped from seeing the final season.

Yeh you fully get it lol, I think maybe because I have autism it gives me a thirst for things that interest me but I fully ignore things that don't lol I'm sure it's not just autistic people that find the same but from what I understand from my phycologist it's how it was explained to me so my mind understood it lol 😂

As a fellow autistic, yup, totally get it. The hyper focus can be so useful, but also can cause havoc in other areas of life. 😅

Yeh like bed time when the mind just doesn't turn off, or the internal monologue starts yelling at 4am with the answer to a question asked 2 days ago, or when you've answer a question but that in itself give more questions that you find relevant but turns out it's completely irrelevant
