Council Tax Problem

Hi everybody I thought i’d look for some help here. My council tax is due on Monday and I don’t have sufficient funds in my account to pay it. Even if they give me the 7 days notice it won’t help as I need 14 days which is when i will next recieve PIP. So what will happen to me I cannot possibly pay a whole year’s worth in one go i’m really concerned now.

Hi @Cobrinha10 - I'd suggest talking to the relevant department about your council tax. Mine was set up as a direct debit for 10 months of the year, with no payment due for the remaining 2 months. All councils are different, but I hope yours will be agreeable to doing something like that as I think it should be an option.

Mine is also set up as a direct debit which is what concerns me. It’s only Saturday which means i’ve got a long time to wait until I can even try and sort something with the council.

Hi @Cobrinha10 if the payment is due Monday it's likely the direct debit instruction has been generated. This will result in a bounce. I'd suggest giving the council tax team a call Monday to explain. I'm sure they'll sort something out for you if you proactively contact them. Try not to worry until then. 😊
