Liz Kendall:  “As is the case now, people can request reassessment whenever they want.  For existing claimants they will remain under the new rules unless they request a reassessment until November 2026.  From November 2026 onwards, there will be that 4 point minimum.”

Are you sure the answer was clear every time? 😎

DWP confirms 4-point rule won't apply to existing Pip claimants reassessed in future - after Kendall mis-speak implies otherwise

The Department for Work and Pensions has released a letter that Stephen Timms has sent to MPs about the concessions on the welfare bill. It contains a Q&A, and the text of the amendments relating to Pip.

The Q&A covers what will happen to existing Pip claimants if their claims are reassessed. It says:

    What has changed?

As part of our measures to strengthen the UC and Pip bill, we will bring forward an amendment for Commons committee so that the 4-point minimum only applies to new claims. This means that no existing claimants will be subject to the 4-point requirement, including if they undergo an award review, whether planned or due to a change in circumstances. Those making a new claim after the measure comes into force (not before November 2026) will be subject to the 4-point requirement.

Earlier in the Commons Liz Kendall seemed to the opposite, implied that existing claimants would be subject to the four-point rule if they ask for a reassessment after November 2026. (See 4.38pm.) But DWP sources have said Kendall mis-spoke, and that the situation is as set out in the DWP Q&A.

I understood that once the new PIP proposal (done alongside disability groups, whatever that means, cause that’s very unclear too) comes through, everyone will be subject to the 4 point rule

Apologies to everyone if I have misread what has been said in parliament today. I would really appreciate if someone could clarify this 4 point rule to me. Will this apply to everyone who is making a claim/reassessed from November 2026? I really appreciate all your help.

Still no clarity on the fate of those on LCWRA who have no PIP.

😂😂😂😂 WHAT AN ABSOLUTE **** SHOW .... Liz Kendall had absolutely no idea what was going on !

So from what I got from all that was ..... Absolutely nothing , I'm more lost now than before I watched it .... Honestly I'm so angry 😡 there a disgrace!!

    So basically ...

Im on CBESA / new style esa and LCWRA but NO PIP

So my plan was right all along !

Keep getting reassessed through the WCA , that covers my ESA and my lcwra , with the reassessments starting back up at scale in mid 2026 even though I'm overdue by 4 years in November hopefully I can dodge a reassessment until beginning of 2027 with the backlog.... Hopefully I can then pass it and get a two year award taking me too the beginning of 2029 where I will then have to try to pass the new pip criteria just to keep what I have as I'm pretty sure even though I'm a existing claiment for ESA and lcwra , I'll be classed as a new pip claiment when transitioning over !

What an absolute disgrace these politicians are , I despise them !

A special mention to the cowards who backed the rebellion and have now pulled out as they got spooked and are trying to say this is now a good deal

ABSOLUTELY nothing has changed , complete stitch up

Kendall is dangerously out of her depth.

I'm sorry to say that especially in light on online bullying, I'm against bullying and abuse full stop but you just cannot have a politician who hasn't got a clue being in charge of a massively important department like Work and Pensions.

She hates disabled people and thinks many of them are lazy scroungers, that in itself should disqualify her from that position.

There's going to be a huge increase in the claims of adults currently still on DLA, as well as those on LCWRA but not PIP. Are they prepared for this?

that’s what I was wondering. I think if past calculations were correct with Tory’s Lib Dem’s and independents voting against we need about 83 labour voting against. If I’m wrong someone please correct me. Whatever the number I would imagine starmers pooping himself again

They'll probably welcome it as an excuse to really crunch down harder on the assessment reforms and descriptors that will apply to everyone. No 4 point rule, but getting any points at all may become almost impossible for some existing claimants .
