PIP reward

Hi there, I’m asking for some advice regarding my daughter. She returned her PIP renewal form on January 25th 2025. We done the form together this time and I added quite a lot of paperwork regarding her mental health and physical disabilities that she hadn’t included with her previous renewal forms as I’m sure she should be entitled to a lot more. Last week she got a response from DWP saying that her initial claim had been extended until 9th August 2026 and that that were still reviewing her claim. Is this correct that they extend your previous reward but she has to wait over a year for their decision. Could anyone give me some advice please or had anyone been in the same situation and what your outcome was. Grateful for any advice

If a decision hasn't been made on the review, 35 days before it's due to run out they extend for one year, to give themselves time to make a decision as there are significant backlogs within the system.
Once a new decision has been made, it will apply immediately and override the August 2026 expiry.

Thank you for your advice, I just thought it strange to extend for a year
