To those migrating to UC be warned about council tax support

    If it makes you feel better, it can get a lot lower, my support got dropped to just 20% before my Mayor intervened (yes my council tax quadrupled), and it was 80% before that, however his intervention is only temporary discretionary support to bump it to 60% meaning I only dropped one step, and a promise to review next year's policies as he admitted their changes this year affected some people too much.

    Each council has their own policies, yours sounds like one of the better one's.

    My council doesnt treat UC different to legacy benefits, but it now completely considers PIP as income for deductions of support. Which has led to PIP claimants going down multiple 20% bands. they also adjusted the the earning threshold at same time to lower numbers, so its the combined effect.

    What I expect to be common place though is councils getting things wrong on the migrations, my council would never have known my details changed if I didnt tell them (for both PIP and UC), it seems communication from the DWP is lacking or is issues with councils checking for it.

    For the working age it isnt, it varies from one local authority to another. The changes can be quite extreme, likewise they have independence on how they dish out the household support fund as well. Councils with higher poverty levels are probably more likely to have less generous CTR schemes.

    Actually ours has gone to 0 support and we have to pay the rest of our bill ourselves and we've tried talking to the council but they've said that's correct. So yeah looks like it's gone lower as it's 0 support now

    Not for council tax no just one for housing/rent

    I don't work for, or with, CT, so I can't answer that question. I only know what information has been provided in this area. As someone who's only ever claimed PIP and never UC or ESA, I don't want to speculate on things outside of my experience.

    The local change doesn't apply to me because my household pays full CT already. But I have met people in this area who are directly affected by the change, and seen their bills.
