Hi, my name is CarolineJ123!

I’m autistic and only realised later in life. It has now helped make sense of a lifetime of misunderstandings, especially in the workplace and with systems like Universal Credit. I’ve been through a lot of trauma caused by services that claim to support disabled people but often fail to make even the most basic accommodations
I’m here to connect with others who’ve been through similar experiences, to keep learning and sharing, and to speak up about the reality of life under policies that rarely meet the needs they claim to serve.

Welcome to the community @CarolineJ123!
We've got a few people who have had their autism diagnosis later in life, so I hope they'll find your post and say hi soon.
In the meantime please feel free to join in with any of the discussions or start your own. If you need any help with anything just let us know ☺️

Thank You Rosie. I struggle with social media sites, but I'm hoping to start engaging with other austistic members on here. Let's see how it goes!

Hi, Welcome to the community,
I have Autism although was diagnosed in my late teens when I was at college. How are you finding things after being diagnosed? It can be a shock at first but its like finding a missing piece to a jigsaw at the same time and answers so many questions.

When I first found out, I spent a good while going through my entire life, re-writing it. I realised so much was my autism.
I felt so emotional and cheated at that time.
A year on, and now I am still learning ways of coping. Understanding why I was different and what was different about me has been unbelievably helpful.
I no longer have huge meltdowns and I have lots of moments where I am so proud of myself.
I had a 60 year piece jigsaw! Lol
