Just been reading …

Hi lovely ppl I’ve just been reading that apparently may get 25% less on universal credit than what was getting on my esa, I was in support group , with disability premium. I’ve seen loads of ppl saying down by hundreds . Surely that’s not right ? I’m now panicking I’m still waiting for mine to be sorted verified yesterday. She did say apply for pip but il do that when I know what’s what etc but I was told before that the migration was smooth and payments would be protected etc . I have debts I’m trying to clear so I’d be stressed to death if money messed up . Anyone shed light on this ? How’s it been for others migrating etc ? Thank you peeps . X

The only issue I know of with people being down by hundreds is those with Transitional Protection changing from Carers Element to LCWRA after migration, due to a court judgement not being applied correctly.
Otherwise if your total UC award is lower than legacy benefits, Transitional Protection will be added to your claim to ensure at the time of transfer you aren't worse off.
TP does erode over time as other elements go up or new elements are added. Effectively your payment is frozen until the usual non TP rates catch up, or you have a major change of circumstances (such as swapping either way between a couples and single claim) which ends TP.

ah thank you so it eventually balances out ?, as payment protection am I right in thinking though that’s a short term thing ? I just don’t want to be getting less as obviously need to cover rent , bills and debts as everyone does of course but I worry like mad ( massive over thinker ) x

At the time of transfer your UC award will equal legacy benefits due to the addition of Transitional Protection.
Transitional Protection reduces over time as the elements you are entitled to go up or new elements are added.
How long Transitional Protection takes to erode to zero varies from person to person.
