Getting help with addiction

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any advice my mum's friends daughter is currently taking herion she's got a disability easiest way to explain it is that her brain hasn't developed and is at a mental age of I would say 14 she has asked if she could get her into a local hub which works with drug addicts but they have turned her down as they say due to her disability she would be easily influenced by others that go there she's at breaking point and doesn't know what to do if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated thanks

    Hi @user31 I'm really sorry to read this, it must be incredibly difficult for all involved. It's such a shame that the local hub won't support your friends daughter. Has she had any support previously? I've added a few links that might be helpful. The NHS do offer treatment, and there's some additional links on their website for finding local support groups which hopefully will be more accommodating.

    I'm not a professional but speaking from being in a similar position with a family member…

    If she's at breaking point and community-based support is unwilling to help, would sectioning her be an idea?

    I think she can voluntarily do it, or if you think necessary, it sounds like she'd fit the criteria to be sectioned by doctors, as it sounds like she is arguably a danger to herself.

    In hospital they'd hopefully* take her off the drugs in a controlled way and monitor her

    *that's the bit where I have no experience as I know how stuff is meant to be done doesn't always mean it is done like that 🙁 so I'd advise looking at past experiences / reports from others if you did decide to look into it

    It is an option I think she's trying to look at other options and if that doesn't work that would be what she would do thanks for your help
