Council Tax Reduction - earnings thresholds

Has anyone had any experience of their Council Tax Reduction CTR being cut or reduced, on account of sporadic and limited ad hoc earnings (less than £1000 per year).

Nobody at my local council (including their so called benefits advisory service) is prepared to give me a rough idea as to what my situation could be (if I do go ahead with the work) or let me know the the council’s rules re: earnings thresholds at which one’s CTR will be either cut or reduced.

The LA wish to only calculate things, once I start doing the work - not before. Whilst I would like some rough calculation before, so that I can make an informed decision and not risk my CTR or be worse off because I tried to do a small amount of work.

Is there any way I as a member of the public can access my local council’s policies on such calculations and determinations, so I can attempt to work it out myself.

Hi @Camellia sorry, just noticed you hadn't had a response to this one. Did you capture this when speaking to a specialist?

Hi Holly no success with so called specialists. My CTR will possibly be affected when I migrate from ESA to UC in any case. I plan to get hold of a copy of the council’s policies for Council Tax Reduction as a first step. This may involve a FOI request.

Morning @Camellia. Sorry you hadn't had any luck and I couldn't be more help either. Hopefully you're able to get hold of that document. I'd like to think they'd make these things readily available to public. Please keep us updated if you're happy to 😊
