Rent increase; UC said to inform them EXACTLY on the date it changes! Is this correct?

Had notification of a rent increase starting 6th October. I rang the UC helpline and was told to notify them on 6th October. It was hard to understand her at times due to her accent but she seemed to be saying not to let them know before and definitely not after that date. Is this right - that I need to tell them EXACTLY on the date my rent change is effective from?

That seems oddly specific. What if someone was ill on that day? Or didn't have access to a computer?

Is this how it always is for rent changes?

UC can't handle changes that happen at a future date.

Changes need to be reported as soon as possible after they have happened, especially within the same Assessment Period as the change occurs.

So while ideally you let them know on the day, as soon as possible afterwards is okay too.

Thank you, that's useful to know. Have made a note in my diary to tell them ON the date. Am keen to follow all the rules so as not to f*** up my claim!
