I have got mine in the post today thank you to the people who suggested it

It's a lot easier to carry around then a letter from the DWP. I keep mine in my wallet all the time.
Plus there's no address on it for people to see.

these are just private companies profiteering off a lack of a national formal scheme. They are in no way official , the one that is recognised in the most places formally is the ACCESS card by NIMBUS
These national ones look like driving licences, they are made to 'look official' and in some ways mean that people become more gullible to falling for fake government schemes like the fake GHIC websites etc, so just beware.

just used it today in hotel chocolate to get my mum some chocolate vodka for her birthday took it no problem unlike the last time I bought alcohol we had to complain because they wouldn't take my student card

I got asked for id up until 36 yo! (That was the last time it happened).

To be honest, they shouldn't really accept your student card or your new disability card as they are not official. They are only meant to accept official ID's such as a Driving Licence, Passport etc.

I've been showing people the blue ID card for over 6 years now and it's never been questioned or refused. I was a bit worried at first though in case it was worth the money.

35 years ago - I registered as being DISABLED and was issued with a card by my Disability Employment Advisor - What's changed ?

Why is this card even allowed to pretend to be an official document - with a crown on it ?

The problem is the same with those Green Sunflower Lanyards, they aren't officially recognised in most places… I remember that time I got stuck in Town when Sheffield Wednesday were at Home to Millwall FC, I was forced to remove myself from the Tram on West St because away fans were being rowdy and disruptive, and I didn't feel safe, sat several seats away from my support worker, and got off the Tram, unseen by her… And to make matters worse, my phone died so I couldn't phone Home for Dad to come and save me, I'd got the Sunflower Lanyard round my neck, I went up to a local PC, who was neither use nor ornament to put it politely..
When I got back (eventually), I was so enraged I emailed the local MP, he eventually got back to me and told me the local Police aren't trained to acknowledge the Sunflower Lanyards, but would put it to Police Chiefs to add it to their training.
My point is that having a card saying we're disabled would be rather pointless IMO, and could even lead to dangerous bullying by right wing fools who hate the disabled (and there's a lot of them around at the moment with the rise in popularity of far right Parties such as Deform UK)

Over 30yrs ago, my local Council then gave me a card. I still have it!! 😆 It's yellow card, half a postcard size in a clear plastic wallet. I can't remember if I ever needed or used it for anything.

Mine was green - so they obviously were not supplied nationally - maybe printed off locally by the Disability Employment Advisor ?
I used mine as ID for the job centre !

Seems not, they were probably just local county councils. I was still fully signed off awaiting another op, so I don't think mine came from a DEA. I've a feeling it was something to do with blue badges at the time. Shame they don't still do them though, then disabled would have the ID needed in some places that was actually official.
