Hi, my name is suziol! Have DWP made a mistake on our housing benefit deductions?

            Hi,
My husband and I are currently being migrated to universal credit from esa. On esa we have all our rent paid but we have just found out that because we have 2 adult children living with us, we now lose over £100 a month from our housing benefit. I had never heard of this before so I did some research and it says that if the claimant is getting personal independence payment you should still get full housing benefit. So has the dwp made a mistake, as my husband is getting higher rate pip. I am very confused, we were told we have transitional protection and won't lose any money, ha ha ha. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi @suziol, welcome to the community. Does your husband receive the daily living component for PIP? If so, there shouldn't be deductions from your housing payments. Could you perhaps contact them to confirm that they've taken that into account? Hopefully they can get it all sorted out! 0

Hi, Yes he does receive this and I obviously put this on our claim form when we applied so they should know this. I have put a couple of messages on my uc journal for someone to contact me to hopefully get it sorted out. 0

Hi, I have left a message on my journal in my universal credit account about the fact my husband is receiving pip daily.living and mobility at the highest rate, they are still saying there should still be a reduction in our housing benefit. As it is Breckland Council that deal with our housing benefit payments, could you tell me if we should write a letter directly to them with a copy of my husband's pip award, thanks. 0

Universal Credit are now paying your rent via Housing Element, your Housing Benefit paid by local council ended when you applied for UC. If the Journal isn't getting you anywhere, try an official complaint 1
