What's your favourite random fact?

I don't know about you, but I love silly little facts that are of no use to anyone, unless you're in a pub quiz. So I thought it could be fun for us all to share random facts that we've recently found out.

For instance, I found out today that octupi prefer to use different "arms" for different tasks. So they may only use one arm to hold a jar and another to open it.

I wonder if they use a a specific one to scratch their noses? šŸ¤”

So over to you, lovely community. Let's get a mega list of potentially useless facts!

    A termite queen lays 1 egg every 3 seconds, 24 hours a day, for 25 YEARS.

    I’ll let someone else do the maths šŸ˜‚

    The formula for WD-40 was never patented. A patent mandated publicly disclosing the list of ingredients for 25 years of sole legal rights over its use, after which anyone was free to copy it. The Rocket Chemical Company realised it would be difficult to ascertain the makeup via analysis, so opted to take the risk in order to keep the recipe a secret. It paid off!!

    Film fact for you. Did you know James Cameron based the alien queen in Aliens on a termite queen?

    I expect a warm bath of WD-40 may be quite relaxing. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

    I once saw someone had left a bottle of WD-40 in the pharmacy section of a supermarket, among the cod liver oil and other lubricants

    I know people often leave stuff they've changed their mind about, bit it made me laugh, it can't have been by accident šŸ˜†

    @Wibbles

    It's definitely a good thing to have

    I was once told that: for any single job, there's always a better product; but if you can only have one oil in your toolbox, it can can do almost anything to a decent standard

    Apart from bike chains - standard WD40 does more harm than good - it strips off oil/lubricant rather than lubricating ….. it is a cleaner !

    And WD-40 is short for

    Water displacement 40th attempt.
