What are your concerns about a potential Digital ID?

Hello, I completely agree with those who believe that coercion is not the way to go.😥

I don't have a smart phone, can't afford one, wouldn't even know how to set one up and how to go about paying some service so I can go online with it.

here is an interesting fact

As you age, skin on your fingertips becomes less elastic and the ridges get thicker. This does not change your fingerprint, but it's harder to scan or take a print from it.

I have seen many old people in ZA trying to access their bank accounts and their prints don’t work.

I have also seen in Russia debit cards with the persons photograph.

I have a basic rule that nothing significant is on my phone. I won't put my bank stuff on there, I never use it to make payments, and don't even use the nhs app on it. If it were to be stolen, all that someone would get would be a lot of pictures of random plants…:)

At my workplace, most all departments have gone digital, so we spent a LOT OF TIME signposting people with no internet access/computer understanding/no ability to use phones (and often we can't actually resolve the issue, because there are no options). We are not trained to handle most of these enquiries to resolution, nor do we have access to secure databases that would be needed to resolve them - but we are the only face to face staff, and so we do what we can.

This has taught me that there are a LOT of people who can't use phones or computer devices, not just disabled people. A LOT. I am sure the digital ID scheme fails equality legislation on more grounds than just disability.

And that's before you get into human rights, privacy and the risk of databases being hacked…
