Hello, im currently off work sick due to having a stroke on the 23rd september. Im lucky enough to have made a some what full recovery from it but my consultant at the hospital and my own doctor has advised me it can take around 6 to 8 weeks for me to be back to myself fully, im currently of work sick with full sick pay from my job. Do i need to declare this to universal credit as im still getting full pay and only going to be off for s total of around 8 weeks?

    Dear @jadebee ,

I am pleased to hear about your recovery following your stroke; I understand this may have been a challenging and frightening experience. Please be advised that you are warmly welcomed here within the Scope community.

Since you are currently receiving full sick pay from your employer, there is generally no requirement to report your illness to Universal Credit, provided your earnings and circumstances remain unchanged. Universal Credit primarily assesses your monthly income; therefore, if you continue to receive your usual payments, your entitlement should not be affected.

Nonetheless, it is advisable to inform Universal Credit via your online journal of your sick leave duration. This ensures your records are accurate and helps prevent potential issues should your pay or working hours change.

In the event that your employer ceases to provide full sick pay and you transition to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) or experience a reduction in income, it is important to update your details with Universal Credit, as this may impact your benefit payments and work-related obligations.

For informal conversation or light-hearted engagement, you may consider visiting the Coffee Lounge or the Games Den.

Please take things at a comfortable pace and prioritize your recovery.

Hi @jadebee and welcome to the community. I'm so glad that you've made such a good recovery. Make sure you keep looking after yourself and allow yourself to heal, don't rush back to work.

As DurhamJaide has said, you don't need to let them know about it but we typically advise popping a note in your journal, just so they're aware of everything 😊
