Carers support
Hi
Has anyone had issues with the carers allowance unit when calculating Income?
My MIL has been caring for my daughter who is in receipt of DLA. She was backdated via MR in July this year. (Backdated to June 24)
She's self employed and since caring for my daughter she has reduced her hours and days which meant her income/earnings were less than her normal income in previous years. For the period she claimed she earned 7500 in that year and the max income was £151 a week so she was below threshold for that year.
She did also get a dividends payment but according to the Government guidelines it says dividends payments are to be disregarded as they are not classed as Income. (Not an employee director)
They replied and gave an award from April this year but said she was above threshold for 24/25 period which was the backdated amount.
I'm just wondering if anyone else had similar experience and were successful in a MR? She has had loss of Income due to caring for her so I feel bad that she's been refused this as well.
She provided her accounts for 24/25 and I think a balance sheet and they also requested 23/24 accounts for some reason even though she didn't claim for that period.
Thanks in advance!

hi there and welcome to forum It's so hard for your daughter to care for your granddaughter but I would definitely recommend accessing social worker and ask for direct payments because with direct payments it will pay for a carer also ask for respite because it might help if you get a couple of nights a month it all ads up.
Other than that I would recommend the coffee lounge for a general chat or the games den for some fun.0 -
Hi @confused789. I'm sorry no-one was able to answer your question. Have you managed to sort it now?
