Do i inform UC?
Hi all,
I am a full time carer for my husband and also do voluntary work at my local community center but circumstances have changed and have decided to give up the voluntary work and get a part time job.
I started the job on the 29/09/25 and work for 16hrs a week on minimum wage of £12.21 a hour.
Some of my friends say i don't need to inform UC as it's done automatically as it's a PAYE job, but some of my friends are saying to inform UC.
Which one of my friends are correct.
Really sorry if the above question is silly, not very good at things like this.
I also still don't know how this job will effect our UC.
All very confusing
Regards

A PAYE job will automatically inform UC.
As you have a dependent child on your claim, you can earn either £411 (getting Housing Element) or £684 (if not) a month before UC make their standard deduction of 0.55p for every pound earned.
If you are still getting Carers Allowance then you should inform them as CA has an earnings limit.

Hi @Kimi87
Thanks for your response.
According to Google it says the following: The weekly earnings limit for Carer's Allowance is £196 after deductions for tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
My friend Just worked out my weekly earnings and if shes correct:
16hrs a week at £12.21 minimum wage comes out at £195.36 a week so I'm just £0.64 under the above limit.
Also I do have a dependent child and I also get Housing Element so it looks like mine will be £411 so if I'm correct it will be the following:
64hrs a month @ £12.21 (minimum wage) = £781.44, so I will be £370.44 over the £411
So minus the 0.55p from the £370.44 = £203.74 UC deduction.
p.s Not sure if the above is correct, my friend worked it out for me.
