There's a bit about this on the Benefits and Work site:
And on the Government's website:
It is totally voluntary and nobody will be sanctioned for not engaging with them, it's just there as an offer for those who might like to try something new.

Without sounding negative lets hope it stays that way

Why would it be a bad thing if those who are able are helped into employment? They aren't exactly going to ask a wheelchair user to drive a tuck.
1 -
They won't be contacting people monthly.
If someone accepts they will have a monthly appointment.

EErr because I do not trust them to be fair

They could suggest call handler jobs for wheel chair users ao many possibilities

So what would be wrong with that? I was ready and willing to answer calls, but no employer would touch me. It shouldn't be a choice, to work or not, if you are able. The difficulty is securing that job in competition with the able bodied.

Same for abled bodied with mental health i dont think they really care if your not employable that will be down to the individual to deal with but I try and keep optimistic that they really have people best intreast at heart

There are two golden rules to bear in mind when dealing with the DWP.
Rule #1..Do not trust these people under any circumstances whatsoever.
Rule #2..If in any doubt about whether you can trust them, always refer back to Rule #1.

All very clever, i'm sure, but if they really help claimants, it would surely be a good thing?

Of course Chris, but my own personal experience of dealing with these people is deeply, and i mean DEEPLY unpleasant. It seems to me that, quite recently, the parameters of how the DWP can treat the claimants have moved. They have been hostile and aggressive towards myself, and i very much doubt that i am the only one.The constant threat of sanctions, coupled with the threat of total removal of all benefits (which will lead to homelessness) hangs like the Sword of Damocles above me.It wouldn't be so bad if i was dealing with reasonable people, but my own Work Coach is an illiterate,half-witted bully, who would be quite unemployable herself in just about any other line of work.

it would seem to be that most on the benefit system dont want to work leading the government to assume your getting enough money to live on i myself am a pensioner and i would still be working if i could we can all cut down on spending sky tv for the kids blah blah the list of savings is endless if you all think life is hard now wait till the next election

The one i had at the beginning of all this, they used to work in my local, pulling pints.

@jw68, I'm sorry you've had such a negative experience with the DWP. Have you made a complaint about them being hostile and aggressive towards you?
0 -
I cannot tell you the full story on here as i have my suspicions that DWP employees could very well be looking in..As for complaining to the DWP about how they themselves treat claimants, well…wouldn't that just be a case of students marking their own homework?..They are hardly likely to admonish themselves,or any of their employees, are they?
1 -
That's fair enough @jw68. You could always contact the Ombudsman
You would need to make the complaint to your MP within a year of the issue occurring and they will then pass it to the ombudsman.

Thanks very much for that information,Rachel.

Michael,Sorry to break this news to you,but this is a forum for disabled people. Many of the people on here cannot work, let alone begin to think about whether they want to work or not.
1 -
haha you could get a job as the court jester ps do not assume i am not classed as a disabled person because i am a pensioner punctuation is all fine and dandy if you can see it
