Universal Credit Advances

in Universal Credit (UC)

Hello all.

I am currently under extreme financial pressure and I am looking tinto trying to get help from Universal Credit.

I had both a benefit transfer (£393) advance (which I believe is available when you move to UC) and the budgeting advance of £348 and I recently repaid back the latter so I could get a further loan.

I am wondering if I would be able to pay the remaining benefit transfer to then get the loan again, but I am unsure as I believe that is only due once when you join UC?

The extreme financial pressures are causing much harm and I do not have anywhere else to go as I do not have any family.

    I don't think that you need to repay the UC Advance Payment, which you can only get once, to request a second Budgeting Advance. You will just have needed to repay the Budgeting Advance itself. It wouldn't make much sense to repay the Advance Payment as this would make you worse off financially. You don't go into any detail about your financial pressures but if you are struggling there may be other sources of support. I would suggest that you contact your local CAB to ask about what may be available in your local area.

    I appreciate your reply, but the advance payment does need to be paid back as I am currently paying it back.

    Sorry I meant that you don't need to have paid this off before you can get a second Budgeting Advance.

    You have to pay off the first budgeting advance before you can get the second, this was confirmed by Universal Credit over the phone.

    The question in this thread is whether the original advance can be applied for twice.

    No you can't apply for the original advance again, this is a one off payment
