Work-related interview and commitments for Universal Credit claim.

A joint claim made for Universal Credit for my wife and I has not been finalised as a telephone call to my wife is expected shortly concerning her work commitments. I have already made it clear in her journal that she has several highly serious medical conditions and cannot manage her own affairs. Consequently she is in, and has been for several years, the Support Group of Employment and Support Allowance, and therefore should not be required to undergo work-related requirements for UC. I spoke on the phone with a benefits adviser who was adamant about this but I will have to see if the information was correct. If my wife has to attend a work-related interview then we will be obliged to withdraw the joint claim for UC as there is no way I that I am prepared to place her under such stress as to exacerbate her fragile state of health. The UC web site clearly states that they cannot pay any money until the claim has been finalised. Perhaps our claim will be “finalised” after the phone call is made. If not I will have no alternative other than to do as I have said. I will, of course, write more on this if the claim is successful or not. If not we will have pay full rent and manage on my state pension. Quite frankly, I have had enough of all this.

Was the previous ESA award in her name?

It might be the behind the scenes communication has not yet been completed and UC haven't yet awarded her the equivalent of ESA Support Group, which is Limited Capability for Work Related Activity.

When in LCWRA you have no work commitments.

The only commitment is (which needs to be agreed to) to keep them informed of any changes.

Yes, the previous ESA awards for income related and contribution wasin her name. She was in the support group due to serious illnesses which are ongoing.

Hopefully the phone call will go smoothly. I was informed on the journal that I could speak for my wife once she gives permission.

I will keep them informed of any changes.

    Many thanks Kimi.
