Mistake after mistake with Universal Credit claim.

When completing the online universal credit form for a joint application I inadvertently entered an incorrect address for my landlord. The address I gave was different to the correct one shownon my tenancy agreement, which I sent via their electronic method. This error has now been noted by an agent who informed me that I could not receive the housing allowance until my error had been corrected, something I have now done. My concern is that I will receive a financial penalty for my error. It is not the money that concerns me. It makes me feel like an incompetent idiot. I must be getting old – or something!

    I obtained this information via a Google search:

    • If the mistake was accidental (negligence) and not an intentional attempt to deceive, you will likely only face the overpayment recovery and the potential £50 civil penalty.

    As I have not obtained an overpayment I hope it will only be a telling off.

    I phoned the universal credit helpline a few minutes ago and was reassured that I would not receive a financial penalty for my errors which I have corrected. I hope that my wife and I will receive payments and rent allowance. I was never good at completing forms as I tend to rush things which is not a good idea.

    Hi @brian1971. I'm glad you've managed to sort it. It's very confusing filling in forms so don't be too hard on yourself. It's easy to make mistakes and they'll be used to it.

    Thank you Rachel. The lady I spoke with on the phone was very helpful and it looks as if the joint claim will be all right.
