I need urgent SMI advice mortgage help scheme
Hi, after waiting 12 months for my SMI mortgage help application to go through today it has been accepted but I am confused and need urgent advice.
It It is asking me if I want my SMI to be backdated 12 months or if to start from this month. Can anyone please advise what to do.

Hi @happyman this isn't something I'm very familiar with but I did find some information that says the payments to your lender can be backdated to the date you applied for it. I also found this which says:
"Claimants can choose to backdate their SMI loan to any date they were eligible, aslong as they have served their qualifying period. As SMI is a loan, they may not wishto receive a backdated payment. Claimants may wish to check with their lender before choosing to receive backdated SMI payments, as some lenders may charge a penalty for early repayment."
I wouldn't feel confident in offering any advice on this, but I hope this information is useful. Hopefully our members may have personal experience of this.
