toilet seat in the only accessible toilet was missing

I visited my local supermarket Sainsbury’s in Odd Down, Bath on Tuesday and the toilet seat in the only accessible toilet was missing and it made it extremely difficult for me to use it as I am a wheelchair user and woman and can’t easily use a toilet without sitting down. I complained to Sainsbury’s and they completely missed the point I was making about missing seat and their reply related to cleanliness instead. I am angry they did not read my email properly and will be looking to see if they have now fixed the problem. I sent the photo of said accessible toilet too. On the plus side they said they will pass on my complaint to the store.

That's shocking @rachmc! Well done for complaining, but it's frustrating they didn't really see your point. Considering Sainsbury's is such a huge company, I would've thought they would be better with things like this.

Will you keep us updated please?

our Sainsbury’s (Bridgnorth, Shropshire) has totally closed the toilets. It’s been like that for a few years. They say vandals has ruined them. It’s a little town, surely not worse than other places. They have no security goat, surely they could find someone to monitor the toilets. The only other ones are over a mile away, and you need 50p or a debit card to even get in. I’d be grateful for a seatless toilet ! The whole provision of customer toilets has been one a joke for many disabled and others. How many people just don’t go out for fear of no toilets being available? Quite a few I think

😂 Now I'm imagining a security goat! That'd be much more fun.

I definitely panic about not being able to find a toilet. I'm baffled as to why they've just given up and closed them. It'd be good if even just the disabled toilet was open and you had to ask to use it, like in Lidl.

Where did the seat go in the first place? It can't be flushed! If it wasn't in the room then someone has taken it.

I don't think a customer could walk out with it. So perhaps the maintenance person found it broken and took it away to avoid risk of injury. If they didn't have a spare then they'll have to go and buy one and fit it another day. Obviously bad timing for you if that is what happened, but hopefully it was replaced soon afterwards. Definitely worth checking next time even if you don't need to use it.
