this is only for those that selling items in Amazon not for customers.

I disagree as I have never sold anything on line.

this according to AI:
Amazon's UK ID verification process depends on the reason. For account recovery, you may need to upload a government-issued ID. For selling, verification usually involves submitting business and identity documents through Seller Central or Amazon Pay, which can take up to ten days or longer. For student verification, you'll need to email a specific student ID or document to a dedicated Amazon address
.
Also, if you are claiming a refund for a high valuable object, you could be asked to provide id verification.
and there’s nothing in Amazon terms and conditions regarding id verification for customers as a default setting nor anything in the news.0 -
@jonf Just wondered if you were ordering something age restricted, like kitchen knives or alcohol.
I had a similar experience with another company. They asked for ID online, but I was absolutely firm, I don’t share personal identification with retailers, full stop.
Rather than lose the sale, they agreed I could just show ID to the delivery driver on arrival. Funny how flexible things become once they realise you’re ready to walk away.

a set of saucepans.

This all sounds a bit odd. Saucepans have not made the age restricted list as far as I know.
Go to your Amazon account and check the messaging centre. If the request genuinely came from Amazon, they will have sent a message there. If you find one, you can contact them directly to ask why they are asking for ID.If there is no message, it is not Amazon. I would then send a message with a copy of what you received so they can investigate.
And if they really are asking for ID, I would tell them exactly where they can put their saucepans and order from Lakeland instead. They have nice saucepans and you do not even need an account to use them. You can just check out as a guest.

I also found this as a possible explanation:
- Account security or payment issues:Occasionally, Amazon may ask for identity verification if there are security concerns with your account or to verify a new payment method, to prevent fraud or money laundering.
Customs regulations: For international orders, some countries' customs offices require the recipient to provide specific identification details before releasing a delivery.

while I am not worried about them asking for identity. Amazon need to realize that they’ll does not have work permits or residency cards as of yet. Not for uk born peeps.

I am seriously thinking of moving back to Cape Town as I can easily rent my home out.
Too much big brother in the UK.
Seriously thinking that I do not belong in my own country.I find it very disturbing.
I was talking to a friend on the phone who lives in Peterborough and apparently they have an identity card that they show when going to a hospital appointment.I think Peterborough is a trial area.

I agree its is so scary all of this everyday seems walls closing in i have no where to escape too 196 countries signed into this agenda will cape town be free of Digital ID

Cape Town has digital identity as well. It has made no difference. What I do know is workmen and older people have no fingerprints so identity or FIKA as it is known becomes a problem.

My concern is that it is another database that hackers can breach and get hold of all my details, also this is an additional cost to the already overburdened public purse and they will try and get the money from more disabled cuts.
