Hi

I transferred to UC from ESA Support Group in July. I get UC about £481 a month ESA LCWRA contribution based about £281 a fortnight. Also pip enhanced for both. My partner moved in on the 27th I have informed the housing and council, also dwp, we now have a joint claim.

My partner works full time. Can anyone please tell me what will be the outcome with my benefits as it won’t show in the journal till about the 17th or 18th.

Any replies are truly appreciated. Before I lived on my own had council tax and rent benefit three bedroom house. I am not sure if he can apply for carers for me as he works full time.

You can try a benefits calculator to estimate your joint award.

    https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

If your partner cares for you over 35 hours a week, your partner can get Carers Element which would add £201.68 to the UC award before deductions.

To claim this log in to your Journal, use the Report a Change Caring for Someone section.

    Hi Kimi87

I did that but they told me it has to be claimed separately.

    Who are "they"?

They might be confused with Carers Allowance which is a separate benefit to UC.

If you've used the Report a Change section to put down your partner as caring for you, then you've applied for Carers Element.

UC Journal said if want to apply for Carers Allowance I have to apply on gov.com

But later in my journal says you told us you care this must be in my partner's journal but seen on each of our journals.

In my journal it says you state your partner cares for someone. I actually put cares for me.

Carers Allowance is a separate benefit to UC, as she works full time she probably wouldn't be entitled due to the earnings limit, and it would get deducted in full from your UC award anyway.

Carers Element is paid under Universal Credit and you apply using the Report a Change section.

From what you've written the application for Carers Element seems to have gone through. So you should see it on your next payment statement.

Still waiting to hear back from carers if successful. My union what I get this month for UC is £0 was getting £481. I note they UC added £201.68 for Carers but I haveet them know my partner is not getting this still awaiting decision.

They UC provided an advance loan don't know how that gets paid if I'm not getting UC also they said they would pay water but how when £0 same as so much towards rent. I didn't realise I would lose all my UC don't know about my new style ESA. I know I still get my pip. Will have to wait to see on 22nd November

Your partner can get Carers Element (UC) without getting Carers Allowance as they are two separate benefits with separate criteria.

Only your Universal Credit award is impacted by moving in with partner.

Your New Style ESA will remain in payment at £281.10 a fortnight.

    Hi Kimi87

Thank you for your help. Won't they then be paying my water out of my New Style ESA and the loan as there is no universal credit?

Just got letter partner turned down for carers allowance.

As previously advised I didn't expect your partner to be awarded Carers Allowance as there is an earnings limit, meaning full time work is likely to exceed it.

Your statement should indicate if there was some UC after deduction of your partners wage, which the water & advance is then paid out of, leaving 0 payable to you.
