hello so I need help and don’t know what to do as I’ve never been in this situation. Sadly my mum passed away on the 6th of November and I was living with her under the council, I don’t work due to mental health and I’m on universal credit. I don’t know what’s gonna happen to me and about the house. Please I need as much help as I can get. Thank you

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Your best bet is to contact the Council as what happens next depends on what type of tenancy your Mum had.

If you don't inherit the tenancy then the council may offer you a new one based on your circumstances.

If you do inherit the tenancy you are not inheriting the property.

In either case you will almost certainly need to move into a suitably sized home which is a one bedroom place.

They should be willing to work with you to find you somewhere you are happy with. If they use a bidding system then you will receive priority (extra points) for downsizing as they will be keen to regain the larger property.
