hi my house mate had received his migration letter back in November last year and he said that he is living with a house mate does he need to add his house mate to his claim I was still under esa at the time and my house mate was told no, I got my migration letter and I went onto uc back in march this year I asked the same thing do I need to add my house mate to my uc claim I was advised not to add him to my claim, last month received a phone from a uc compliance officer both myself and my house mate we forced to go onto a joint claim we are now classed as a couple but we are in two separate bedrooms

    Hi,

    Do you generally live as a couple, sharing meals, sharing household chores, shopping together, etc?

    If yes then this is correct, you should be claiming as a couple.

    However, if you live totally separate lives (not just separate bedrooms) and wouldn't appear as a couple to anyone else, then your claims should be separate. But you will need to provide evidence to show that you are not living as a couple in this case.
