Help with UC & ESA - new claimant
Hi all,
I've recently had to give up my job (2 actually) due to ongoing illness which started in 2022. I've never had to claim before apart from during Covid when I was made redundant. I can't work and I'm really struggling to fill in the EC50 form as my condition varies day to day. Does anyone have any tips for filling this in as some days I may look "fine" but I'm not. This has been a horrible few years and I am struggling to pay my bills. I have a partner who earns minimum wage and can't support us both - does anyone know how much I will get? Or a rough idea. I tried to go back into part time work and I couldn't make it 2 weeks. Thanks for the help.

You can use a benefits calculator to estimate your joint award.
I'd recommend getting help filling in the form:
Bear in mind for benefits purposes, if you cannot do an activity reliably, repeatedly, safely and in a timely manner for more than 51% of the time, you are treated as unable to do the activity at all.
LCW doesn't pay any extra money.

Sorry what I mean is, I haven't received any UC payments yet and they can't tell me how I much I will get. I've used the benefit calculator before but it's not accurate so I don't know how much money I will have to pay my bills. It's all very up in the air at the moment which is adding greatly to the stress of having to figure this out as well as being under investigation by specialists.
Thank you for the information. I will take a look.

Citizens Advice offer a Help to Claim service for Universal Credit, as part of that they can run a benefits calculation for you.
Or you can get more general benefits advice through the Turn2Us link.
