Service Lifts

Hi :-)

I am mobility impaired and work in a building that now has a service lift from a basement carpark for me to use (otherwise I need to walk up 3x flights of stairs), I am going in to the office to try it tomorrow and am feeling a little bit anxious about it (maybe its just me).

There is a work instruction for using the lift BUT they will not send a copy of it onto me, they have pretty much said I just need to rock up and figure it out for myself. Can you think if there is anything I need to consider? I was thinking how often is it serviced, how heavy are the doors etc - I literally have no idea what its going to be like and have asked if someone can accompany me for the first time but wanted to check can they just force me to go in it alone (I hate lifts)?

    All you can do is attempt to use the lift. If the doors are too heavy, then you will need assistance.

    Surely a newly built lift will have automatic doors. Are you thinking of the old fashioned birdcage type lift?
