Less PIP if in supported living

Morning!

Asking on behalf of family member as they have just phoned PIP helpline to update change of address. They have been told by PIP helpline they won’t be entitled to some or all of PIP if living in supported living. They live in an independent flat but have 10hrs “care” a week. The care they receive is just checking in on them and not physical care.

Question: is it correct if living in supported living then they are not entitled to some or all of their PIP?

This has worried them as they use some of the PIP to pay for the care costs!

    I don't believe this is correct, as your pip is used usually to pay for your support when you get your money from pip and are usually billed by the care/support company.

    I've never once heard them taking money from your award.

    Be wary with what PIP call staff say, they are not trained in benefits and half the stuff they come up with is untrue.

    That is not correct what the call centre person said. It is residential care where you can’t receive the daily living component of PIP. In supported living you can receive both daily living and mobility. The call centre staff are often confused and give wrong information. They may have muddled up supported living and residential care. I live in residential care and have many friends in residential and in supported living. Those of us in residential all claim mobility and all in supported living claim both.

    Just to confirm this isn't correct information, they should still be getting all of their PIP!
