Mandatory reconsideration

So I phoned the DWP to do a mandatory reconsideration and ask if I could get an extension to submit the details, given that I have just come out of hospital and it is due on 2/12.

The person who answered my call said, that there is no such thing as an extension and that I need to submit it within 1 month of the letter date of the letter. He said that if I don't submit it on time, I have up to 13 months to submit it, but then I have to give a reason.

I'm confused, will he ask me to submit all the details immediately as to why I want the MR, or do I tell them that I want an MR and then send the stuff before the due date?

Sorted, have to ask for MR tell them you are going to fill in a form and send it to them, they ask if you are going to send additional evidence and then they give a date for the evidence and form to be sent in by.

You got it sorted. If you call they can progress the MR over the phone, you did right to say you will do your MR in writing making sure all information and evidence is received properly....

I’ve heard so many similar stories over the years about how the DWP do not play fair and even more so in 2025 - I’m almost beginning to wonder if we should be going to our local legal advice centre and/or citizens advice centre when dealing with the DWP
