Adrenaline surges in me/cfs
Hello
Does anyone have experience of adrenaline issues? If so, how do you manage them?
Many thanks for any response

Hello, I have suffered with these surges for a long time. I have to be careful and distinguish between the manic episodes and adrenaline rushes but have sussed out that when I am exhausted(due to chronic pain) the adrenaline surges do get worse. I was on propranolol for years for my anxiety and migraines. It did help the rush(sometimes) but I wanted to try the natural route, to see if it made any difference. And it has. I have found a number of things work(mostly temporary and non medication based) but worth a try and could help someone else.
Soaking in salt- any will do the trick, but something that softens the muscles. This can trick the brain into deep relaxation, dampening the surges. Deep, Rhythmic Breathing- I try and do a set of 4/4/4 box breaths to bring me back into the present and stop the ‘rushing’. It feels like it reprograms the body and mind into stillness. Herbal teas/tinctures/capaules- Adaptogens and Nervine Herbs help your body to resist stressors, soothe the nervous system and bring stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline into balance. When sleep is regulated and cognitive function stimulated-this can bring adrenaline levels down too.
These have all helped -
chamomile
fresh mint
Passionflower
Lemon balm
Skullcap
Ashwagandha
Rhodiola Rosea
Holy Basil
Liquorice root
ginseng
good luck and let me know if you have any further questions, x

Thank you so much for your response. I generally drink chamomile tea or decaf green tea. I cant take the adaptogens due to bp meds which is a shame. Ive just had a course of cbt with limited results. I didnt want to try anti depressants, then read a bit about adrenaline surges which made a lot of sense. Do you have waking early issues? Many thanks

Hello Nello,
Your most welcome and I do hope something gives soon. It does feel constantly up n down like a yoyo, especially with lack of sleep.
Yes I wake up frequently and very early, some days I have just got to get up as I am restless.
CBT and EDMR are incredible. Try to do another round of CBT and ask for some EDMR if they have any available.
I have tried lots of anti depressants , sleeping aids and strong pain relief but the most effective is the natural approaches.Any hobbies you already enjoy try to do one a month and then build it up.
Try to get into a routine with it BUT dont feel disheartened if you do go off course. It is all trial and error. We are, are own guinepigs.
I find that I am more tired and less restless after I have tended to a hobby or something I am passionate about.
Some examples-
yoga, pilates, swimming, nature walks, star gazing, making a collage, photography, poetry, music(especially old Vinyls and cassettes) artwork-doodling, painting, sculpting, sewingI am wishing you the best x

Thank you, its just been a stressy time with a relapse and having to decide the way forward if there is one with work. I am much happier with a more natural holistic approach to my health
Take care and many thanks
