Rejected for Council house
Hello, I got rejected from Housing for Council house, I am single mum with three children, I live in private property in Slough since 5 and half years, I have 3 bedroom flat, the rooms are very small. In January 2025 I submitted the form for Housing, they replied me recently saying that I am not eligible as my house is large enough for all of us. It is 3 beedroom but the rent is to expensive I pay £1300 monthly now the landlord wants to rise tie rent to £1400 a month, Universal Credit is helping but they have a limit and then if the rent is affecting me, I do work as well, but my kids are young so even if I work there is not enough money. Can you pls help what do I need to do so I can be on the list for Housing.
Thank you in advance

You should review their documentation and see if you have grounds to appeal the decision not to accept you onto the housing register.
Otherwise they aren't legally obliged to accept you, rent being too expensive isn't classed as a priority need for social housing. If you are deemed adequately housed then you aren't likely to get anywhere.
Even if you were accepted onto the list this doesn't mean you would ever be offered a property.
Social housing is in extremely short supply with high demand, even those who are homeless, overcrowded or have medical priorities face very long waits.

There is a massive overall shortage of council houses across the country, that there is already not enough houses for people in desperate need. So people who get offered them are in dire desperate or need one due to health or emergency, even then those people could be waiting years/months.
They are correct in saying your not eligible at the moment.
You need to look into alternatives rather than a council house and look at cheaper or better accomodation through private or housing associations.

You want to move North, you could get rent a near new 3 bedroom house for £1,200 PCM.....
