Dry mouth - artificial saliva
Amongst my many more serious conditions (as a side effect) - I suffer from a dry mouth at night - I am forced to sleep on my back (due to arthritis) and my mouth stays open (snoring) - I wake up with a mouth like dry leather, many times each night - but when I drink water, I need the loo (extremely overactive bladder) - so I NEVER get a decent night sleep.
I understand that there is ARTIFICIAL SALIVA available - does it work (what's it made from) and is it available on prescription ?

I've never heard of that, that's interesting.
I get very dehydrated because of prostate disease so a lot more goes out than I can get in, so also have a very dry mouth, having to wear a mouth guard and snoring adds to it too.

See your GP or dentist and ask whether they’d be willing to prescribe an artificial saliva spray/gel (especially if over-the-counter products haven’t helped). Dentist/Gp’s prescribe them.
They usually contain:carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) or hydroxyethyl cellulose, glycerin, sometimes electrolytes (salts, minerals) or fluoride (to help tooth enamel), and often xylitol (a sugar alcohol) or other sweeteners for taste.
Try a neutral-pH, gel-based substitute rather than basic mouthwash — gels often stay longer on the mucosa and may provide longer overnight moistureI used to apply Biotene Dry Mouth Gel just before bed that was prescribed to me by my dentist a few years ago.

My wife blames me for sleeping on my back - my mouth evidently stays open and I snore as well !
BUT this is the only way that I can get physically comfortable - if I sleep on my side, my arthritic shoulders hurt….

@Wibbles I know you said here that the dry mouth is a side effect, but maybe the snoring is making the dry mouth even worse? So maybe by decreasing the snoring you won't be as dry? I had a friend whose used nasal tape strips similar to these, and they really helped. They're quite popular so they must work for a lot of people. And they're super cheap, so no loss trying....

I was thinking of Biotene gel - there are so many alternative options - no idea which to try ?

It's a combination of drug side effects and snoring …
