Hi everyone,

I am new to this website posting first time,Please if anyone can guide me that I claimed DLA for my daughter and just two days ago I have received DLA amount in my account ,I am assuming that the claim has been successfull this is why I have received the amount but still I did not receive the decision letter and waiting for that .

We are on universal credit and I am self employed and my wife currently looking after children,as she needs to claim child element and carer element .Could someone can tell me should we inform universal credit now without the decision letter or we should wait until decision letter arrives.

Thank you.

The DLA money in your account could be backdated pay, if it does not equate to a DLA element like High Care. This can and does arrive prior to the decision letter..

I cannot comment on UC and what you need to inform them off unfortunately, no experience.

Hi @Fais01 - & welcome to the community. Quite often benefits can be paid before you receive your decision letter. When your child has a disability, then, depending on their age, & at what rate her DLA is, then you could receive extra money for her with Universal Credit so you will have to wait for her decision letter to find out what her awarded rate is before informing Universal Credit.

Some info on the different DLA rates: https://www.gov.uk/disability-living-allowance-children/rates

& about having a disabled child when you're claiming Universal Credit: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-if-you-have-children#support-for-disabled-children

Please scroll down to 'Extra amount if your child has a disability' with the last link.

Hi Chiarieds,Thank you so much for your answer .I think the amount we received looks like my daughter would get middle rate.I will wait for the decision.Thank you

You're very welcome @Fais01 - it looks like you may be eligible for the lower rate for your daughter with your Universal Credit claim. Your decision letter should confirm what rate she has been awarded with her DLA.
