Disability History Month - Alex Brooker
Alex Brooker was born on 15th May 1984 in London. He was born with limb differences of his hands and arm, and a twisted right leg which had to be amputated when he was a baby.
He is a journalist and presenter who is best known for co-hosting Channel 4’s The Last Leg since 2012. His comedy, honesty and openness about disability have made him one of UK television’s most recognisable and relatable voices.
Alex first connected with Channel 4 through its Half a Million Quid Talent Search which aimed to bring more disabled talent into broadcasting ahead of the 2012 Paralympics.
He quickly became a standout reporter and interviewed high profile figures and helped shape The Last Leg into the sharp, funny and disability positive show we enjoy today.
Alongside The Last Leg, Alex has worked across a range of programmes such as presenting on Pointless and as “Bigfoot” on The Masked Singer.
Alex often speaks candidly about body image, confidence and navigating awkwardness.
Off-screen, Alex supports Arsenal, plays Physical Disability Rugby League and is an ambassador for Legs4Africa. He lives with his wife and their two daughters.
Alex’s mix of humour, heart and sincerity has made him an important figure in celebrating disability and pushing for better representation across TV and beyond in the UK!

As part of this week, I attended a Meeting in Cardiff at Unite Central Office and the Neurodiversant and Disability groups around Cardiff.
It was nice to catch up with people from Swansea, and meet others I had talked to but not met.
Some great Ideas and also dealing with Womens rights and abusive situations. I will be contacting you about the Well being centres being opened up in Wales and have already got Rhondda Cynnon Taff on board to start 'putting the community back into the community starting with Ty Rhwin Community Centre.
I have spoken to Michael Cued who is the overall facilitator for Rhondda Cynnon Taff and the Vale of Glamorgan who this morning has allocated a Site Co-ordinator for Ty Rhwin to allow plans within the centre to get a dedicated Business Line and Wi Fito the centre and will also install another telephone line at no extra cost.
Talking of Cost: the installation of the 'new Line' and the installation of Fiber Broad Band, costs in total £385.00 this cost was wavered when I explained what it was for.
Michael Cued, welcomed my input and asked if I could run the centre for RCT, again I stated to Dawn the lady that runs the toddler and early learning centre that I will set up the Centre and you will run it for the community, where people are asking to join or know what is going on in the estate, so this will get things back into the community again.
I have other plans, like Cathays, Llanishen, Splott and Pengam Green, where the schools were involved in designing the local playground with only one stipulation? That they make it disability-friendly and accessible to all. This will be number 6 when I go down to the schools on Monday.
The ball is rolling, and this will benefit everyone, where the community will realise that disabled people need me time as well, and will promote the community spirit where it is needed most, A VOICE IN THE COMMUNITY, WHERE ANYTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED IF YOU ASK.
I would like from the admin a letter or something to say I am a Senedd member for Scope and have been for some time, even if it just states he is our undercover boss, and will relay YOUR thoughts into AN ACTION PLAN, WHEN YOU JOIN THE COMMUNITY HUB NETWORK AROUND THE COUNTRY.
I have some other ideas to kick-start the economy and the community with scope and disability rights in mind.
