NS ESA and UC first payments

Just a silly question my link worker spoke to DWP on my behalf. Found out that former income based ESA will be about £21 a week which went to UC. Rest is made up of NS ESA which is about £140 a week. Job centre they to contact me to complete my NS ESA. In theory it is due on 15 December. (Contribution based ESA ran out on 1 Dec. Typically I received letter on 2nd.) Does it mean that the only payment I get will be what is used to be called income based ESA which will almount to £105 a month. I would prefer my link worker to be around for that dreaded phone call. I won’t be seeing her until 30 December.

If you migrated from the Support Group, your payment will be made up as follows (going by the figure you mentioned I'm assuming single, over 25, no dependant children & no Severe Disability Premium)

    UC Standard Allowance £400.14

    UC LCWRA £423.27

    Total £823.41

    Minus £609.05 ESA

Equals a monthly income of £609.05 NS ESA & £214.36 UC (plus any Housing Element if applicable).

ESA will be paid fortnightly, UC monthly.

You will be better off after migration as your previous ESA as a monthly equivalent was approximately £700

I am waiting for DWP to call to complete my CB to New Style ESA. It appears until it is completed I won’t get new style ESA

Historically during UC migration ESA payments continued on the claimants normal ESA payment cycle after converting automatically to NS ESA, even without the commitments appointment having been completed.

As previously advised CB ESA changing to NS ESA for all is very recent, and as such there are a lack of real life examples to base advice on.

We simply don't yet know who will be effected and how.

My CB was stopped on 1 December, I think in theory I should get a payment on 15 December. What will happen on 29 December May be more uncertain if I heard nothing.

    Got attached on 2nd December

still not heard from job centre. I relation to NS ESA. So no payment of NS ESA until appointment made and commitments complete. Is there a back log

Will I get the final two weeks payment of CB ESA on usually payment day 15 Dec since CB ESA is paid in arrears and is not part of UC. Would be useful if true.

    First UC on 24th Dec

The usual procedure when migrating with a mixed ESA award is the CB ends and converts automatically into New Style ESA.

The claimant has a commitment appointment by telephone where the only thing they need to agree is keeping ESA updated of any changes, same as with UC.

The letter is a standard letter sent out with much of the information applying to new claims only, not transfers as part of the migration process.

Payment continues along the normal ESA payment cycle even if the appointment hasn't happened.

My CB ESA ended 1 December 2025. My income based ESA ended on 18 November yet I received my normal payment on 1 November which is on my normal payment day. With CB ESA being paid in arrears will I get my CB ESA on Monday. Would be very useful until I am able to completed my NS ESA claim when ever that appointment takes place.

Do I need to quote regulation 19 for NS ESA since I am in support group and already agreed to commitments when migrating to UC?

The commitment they ask, is different to UC. As its a separate benefit. They ask you to let them know of any changes, that's it

I was surprised to get the call as the letter they sent was held up with many of our useless delivery office. Ten days late from when they sent it.
