Bills
At the moment, I am with EDF energy for my electric.
I have requested for a change in meter, as I still have the RTS meter.
I have not had a reply from them yet.
Is it possible that they will ignore me to charge me a lot more.

@sben you are doing the right thing, keep calling them. I cannot see EDF charging you more, they will know the tariff you are on and when the cheap rate is operational. They will also be able to calculate estimates of both normal and cheap rates from historical usage.
RTS meters, or Radio Teleswitch Service meters, are older electricity meters that allow for multi-rate electricity billing, such as Economy 7 and Economy 10. They rely on a specific radio frequency to function and are being phased out as the technology that supports them is being switched off. As of June 30, 2025, these meters will no longer be operational, and consumers are encouraged to replace them with smart meters, which do not require radio signals to operate. If you have an RTS meter, it is advisable to check with your energy supplier about the transition to a smart meter.

I thought they had already been switched off? Maybe Scotland ran on an earlier timetable.

I have contacted EDF energy many times, but it feels like that they are ignoring me.
Plus my bill are going up, my bills are not going down.

You are correct!

@sben Electricity prices have have been increasing. Does your bill still detail the normal and cheap rate usage? It should do and the units of electricity you are using on each and the cost per KWh on each.

I have an RTS meter, I take the readings & upload to my Eon account monthly, that's the way I've always done it & I keep a running tally for me, so I know exactly what I'm using on any day. I don't have E7 or E10, both eco & prime are the same price & the switch off has changed nothing. So I don't need a smart meter…as yet!!
@sben, prices do change every three months & will go up again from January 1st. In fact, the last three months came down in price, both kWh & standing charge.eta.. sorry, name tag isn't working for some reason

I struggled for months with the tagging, but it works as long as i have the predictive text turned off on my tablet.

I still have the RTS meter.
I have always been giving EDF energy meter readings every month, but they are charging me a lot more for electric.
I have requested many times for the meter to be changed, but I have not heard any thing from them.

Thanks Chris, although, I'm on a laptop & Google my spellings 😉
You do get charged a little more for paying on receipt of bill. Although, I put my readings in on the 13th & have a set day the 19th that I pay, the bill has never arrived by then. I also don't pay by DD, but that is my choice, as they would take the money beforehand, especially when the price changes & I don't need them making me overdrawn. It is what it is & I never have the heating & those couple of £ wouldn't mean that I could.
Good luck with getting EDF to finally change your meter. Keep harrying them, it's a pain, but become a thorn & they'll take note.

This is strange, I have the opposite problem with my provider, they keep wanting to fit a new smart meter here! I'm on an old Economy10 meter though, and apparently their Smart meters only work on Economy7, so I'm keeping my old meter for as long as I can. Annoyingly the clock is quite far out now, so the cheap rate times are almost 15 minutes different to what they should be, I just have to remember that when vacuuming or putting heaters on.

The RTS is still in place but the energy companies are upgrading. I think they're doing it in sections/areas though which is why some people are being contacted by them. Hopefully they get you sorted soon @sben. 😊
