Micromanagement of your activity budget by the council

If my son decides to stop for a drink with his care staff he buys his own drink but the council expect the care staff to sit and drink water or pay for their own drink when they are supporting him in a social activity.Is this usual practice by councils?

    Hi @sallyanne2, welcome to the community. This might vary, but from my understanding the budget is usually only for the use of the person and their needs. It sounds stingy, but for some care situations it can come down to capacity and professional boundaries - whether a person might end up being taken advantage of financially or feel obligated to pay for things from their budget.

    Agencies or councils may have different rules about what's acceptable to prevent carers getting into difficult situations, and the carers would have to stick to those guidelines. I hope some of our members might be able to reply with some of their experiences too though.

    Do your son's care staff get their own food allowances at all? Some places offer these so that staff can get their own food and drinks when out and about supporting people.
