Guilt

Hi folks 👋, I am a middle aged guy who has had mental health problems since pre school days, anyway to the point, I receive lwrc payment now and get my rent paid but feel so guilty about it 😔 I worked and struggled for years but now I seem to be financially okay for the 1st time in my life, the problem is I feel embarrassed and guilty that others have to work hard to keep people like me. I feel a fraud even though I know I am not. I wouldn't wish my life on anyone and would happily live penniless to have a normal life.

People pay taxes not just for you but to support a system that would also support them if they ever found they couldn't work. The UK economy (and global economy even!!) is all interconnected and you contribute in many ways even if not working. When you get benefits you're not just “taking” from the economy, benefits are a way to keep the things balanced, money you receive goes right back out (unlike the super rich who hoarde - which is why 'trickle down' is a myth, and to actually support the economy they need people to spend not save).

I saw an explanation once that said something like "Even if you’re not working, the money you spend still flows through the system and supports everyone else. Everyone’s contribution, whether it’s working, spending, or supporting each other, helps the river flow and keeps the economy healthy." and I think it's so true.

Don't feel guilty about something out of your control and think about all the other ways you contribute to the world ❤️❤️❤️

The problem with the world currently is that "instead of sharing pieces of the pie, these mega rich/elites and corporations want the whole pie all the time" and money is like a drug to alot of humans, in whereby once they have some they want more and more and is just simply "greed". The world would be a better place is everyone shared more, gave more, and simply "shared out the pieces of the pie"

But that was really nice way of looking at things, and its true we still contribute, all the money we spend at shops, bills we have, online shopping etc still go back into wages, paying other companies and their staff wages and so on etc. We still help keep the country flowing and whatever we get we generally give back.
