Cheap Xmas Veg

Hi everyone, quick fly-by tonight but wanted to let you all know they're doing cheap Xmas veg again in the supermarkets. Started today and will last until Xmas Eve, so a good time to stock up if you can. It's only the veg you'd get for a Xmas lunch, but better than nothing as 5p for big bags of everything. Round here Aldi are doing spuds, brussels, carrots, parsnips and swedes, Morrisons are the same except for the spuds, apparently. Don't know about other supermarkets, though probably much the same. You can read all about it here:

Get stocked up while you can folks…

This is really great that the supermarkets are doing this. It can be a really tough time of year financially so this will be such a big help 🙂 Thanks for flapping over to share @FeistyPigeon and hope you're doing well.

Veg could be a better variety Holly although better than nothing. We've found Aldi have a wider range around here, they've got red cabbage for 5p for example, Morrisons are selling them for 79p!! But of course all the bargains end tomorrow and most prices have rocketed. Food inflation seems much higher than the quoted figure. If they really want the sick + disabled to get back into meaningful employment, they need to address the financial black holes a lot of us are in, they can't expect health to improve when you can't afford healthy food or to keep yourself warm.

Hope you're keeping well yourself Holly. I'm bumbling along, still waiting for some effective treatment for the tremor, next appointment is not until August. Don't know what Wes is talking about… Have a good Christmas xx

I suspect the supermarkets are doing no more than making a cynical token gesture here. Who is going to sit down to a plate of turnip, potatoes, and carrots? 🐰

If they really wanted to help their customers, they could cut the cost of popular Christmas meal items across the board, not just on cheap vegetables.

If I had nothing to eat and next to no money, I would buy value pasta, tinned tomatoes and haricot beans; far more nutritious than a plate of root vegetables. I ate that yesterday actually, but the beans were borlotti.
