Riser recliner Dunelm B&Q The Range etc

I've seen several posts on riser recliner chairs but wanted to ask about the chairs sold by companies such as Dunelm, B&Q, Argos etc.

Has anyone bought a riser recliner from these stores that are not specifically focused on mobility aids etc?

Are they any good?

The prices are a lot less than the big mobility type stores, but do they do the job?

I've a budget of £200-300 tops and need to sort out my seating arrangement 😁

At the moment I'm suffering with an old IKEA settee and pouffe, doing my 'log roll' to get out of the thing. It's not good.

I've tried the seat rise pads and cushions but would really like something that helped catapult me up onto my feet and also recline and lay out on.

Having looked about on local 2nd hand sites, there really isn't much available. I imagine they get snapped up pretty quickly!

I know my council has changed what equipment they now provide and riser recliners are definitely no longer available.

I've a lot of lumbar spine issues and am possibly looking at hip surgery coming up soon.

Having some comfy seating to help recuperate on would definitely make things easier

If you have purchased such a chair from these stores I would really like to hear your reviews and recommendations please.

Hi,

Are you able to get out to these stores to test chairs yourself? I think that's the only way you'll really know.

I was looking to replace my aging recliner this year but I can't get out to test. A relative got a few pictures from different shops but that didn't really give me enough information to go on. The one thing I did notice is that the cheap branded chairs seemed to be smaller. I'm not wide but I am very tall and need a backrest high enough to support my head and neck. That is the problem that I found with the cheaper models.

Eventually I settled on one from an expensive brand, having done what I could to measure all the necessary parts against my existing chair, and even got a selection of fabrics to test the quality of those as well. Unfortunately I was then told it takes about 3 months to manufacture the chairs, and I couldn't commit to that sort of timescale. I then ended up having to waste the money on something unexpected so couldn't really afford it straight after that either. So I still have the knackered old chair at the minute. I would also be interested to hear others experiences with these chairs for if & when I can replace mine.

I take on board what you say about the sizes of these chairs.

I don't fancy being squished into a seat!

As I'd be getting rid of the torture device (that is my existing settee) I would also have the floor space for a reasonably large chair.

As I could no longer take the agony of being seated on that settee tonight, today I "adapted" my £40 zero gravity garden chair with cushions and a comfy throw.

Its worked reasonably well!!

Not the prettiest of things and I can't catapult out of it as desired but it's a makeshift until I figure something out.

I have come across 2 companies that show actual prices, seem to have very reasonable delivery options and also have clearance items. They also offer the vat exempt thing.

They are careco and fenetic wellbeing.

Might be worth keeping an eye on for any further sales.

It does look like I will be needing to up my budget!!!

I bought myself a riser recliner from a "proper" seating specialist - that cost £1600 so no idea what one at £200 would be like ……..you also should get VAT relief on the item.

In late 2024 I purchased my careco recliner direct for £350. Its ok i guess but is definitely not comfy for extended periods. It doesn't recline fully either. I've noticed its price fluctuates constantly too from £299 up to £399.
