Pip award - Appeal?
hi I made a post like this last night but I don’t know if it sent so I’ll try again
i have been awarded high rate mobility which I’m obviously pleased about but in my assesment I made it very clear how I struggle with the same conditions in my house too yet they seem to have ignored my struggles in the house and only focused on my outdoor mobility which I find surprising, I was expecting to get at least low rate living too , I don’t know wether to appeal or just be happy that I got high rate mobily as if I appeal I’ve heard I could lose my high rate mobility , I can’t prepare food or wash myself and I explained this and these two things alone should of got me low rate living at the very least but I wasn’t awarded daily living , do you think I should appeal or just be happy I got high rate mobility

Hi @whufcjay, that's correct that you could lose your award altogether if you appeal. The decision is entirely yours but it obviously comes with that risk.
Hopefully another member will be able to share their experience.

Hi @whufcjay - as Rachel has said, if you appeal against your decision (a Mandatory Reconsideration is best put in writing), your award may stay the same, increase or decrease.
It may help to look at the descriptors/activities again that are looked at with PIP. There are 2 parts to the mobility component, one which looks at your physical ability to move around outside, & the other that looks at some of the difficulties you might face in actually going out, & whether you need any support, etc. Please see:
this also covers the daily living activities, & for this, as well as the mobility component, you would need at least 8 points to get a standard award, whilst for the enhanced rate you'd need 12 points or more.
Remember PIP is about how you are the majority of days.
It would be a good idea if you could get some local advice before contemplating appealing. Please look here, choosing 'Benefits' from the drop down menu:
