Housing Help

New here so hope this is okay. I am currently 27 and I am looking to move out of the supported accomodation I have been in since leaving hospital in 2023. However, my application to get on the housing register was denied as it was said I have "adequate housing". I've tried to reach both my care-co and the bed placement manager who transferred my care from hospital but neither have gotten back to me and honestly I'm just very confused on what to do now. I have very little help around me to do with this (staff on site seem as clueless as me if not more so) and I don't know if it is simply due to high demand (?) or that I filled the application in wrong. Obviously I can't stay in supported accommodation forever and I would love to move in with my partner as they are my only real support network and currently we live 3 hours apart, and I want to gain the independence that I've never had before. It's left me so stressed to the point I can't sleep and I keep having meltdowns because I don't know what to do or how to cope with all of this.

Do I try and go for an appeal or am I better off just looking privately with my partner?

Thank you

Does your supported housing have a time limit on how long you can live there? I lived in supported housing for 7 years before the charity changed the rules and said we could only stay for 18 months! I was accepted onto the housing register as then my housing was considered temporary as well as having a negative impact on my health (problem neighbour)

    Hi,

I understand why you would like to move, but the demand is so high for social housing now that they will often only take people who are in immediate need of moving. Unless your Supported Housing have said you need to move out, then I can't see social housing accepting your application at the moment.

If you have the option of renting privately with your partner, that's a much more realistic idea.
