National Hat Day - Do you have an interesting hat or story behind one? π
Happy National Hat Day!
The hat has been around from centuries, and in many form. Sometimes a symbol of status, or to represent a group (Army Beret, Cowboy Hat).
I wondered if anyone had an interesting hat or a hat with a story behind it? π©
I have a grey and pink knitted bobble hat with my initials from a friend which is something I treasure. π

My favourite hat is a handmade gift from a very close friend, it is blue and fluffy and very warm!! A lot of sentimental value thereβοΈ

I bought what I thought was a lovely straw hat with three roses holding the front brim up, when I went to my besty's wedding 30 years ago. I still have the mickey taken, as apparently it looked like I had run into a wall to some. I still have that hat & I still love it! π
Also still have the flat caps I wore when I had a soft top car, 40+ years ago, sadly, I don't have the car now though. π’
Now it's slouchy beanie or bobble, especially at the mo!

My dad is a big history enthusiast - especially modern history from about WW1 onwards. He always wanted a nice warm hat and expressed interest in the Russian ushanka hats, so we bought him one ages ago
Sadly since 2022 he's felt it inappropriate to wear β it's not a political accessory (the badge on the one below is added) but is worried about what associations uninformed people might make so is cautious about wearing it in public
It's REALLY warm⦠I imagine it was designed with a lot of thought for the Siberian winters

In 50 odd years of working on farms I never wore hats now I have to wear one every day to help the cold tingling after affects of strokes its my dawnies excuse for buying more wool to crochet them

I do, @66Mustang, as when I was moving I took a photo, to let everyone know I still had it!! π
Now what is wrong with that?
Sad that your dad feels he can't wear the hat now, we really shouldn't have to worry like that. π

Thanks, @Holly_Scope, the sage green of the floppy rose went with what I wore, I think my crutches did for the day too! π I don't get to wear it now, although, I could wear it to cricket in the summer & wind my sister up. She'd probably refuse to go π€£ but I like it!

Thank you, @66Mustang, I haven't worn it, but I may try this year, if we get another decent summer. βΊοΈ

@66Mustang, I have old t-shirts & unripped jeans. Oh, I have some crop jeans that naturally got threadbare rips, but I ironed on some butterfly patches. I'm not a follower of fashion. π π
