Lost passport
Hello everyone,
Is it normal for DWP PIP to lose someone passport? They had my child passport since Dec 2025 and have not returned it back despite several calls. He has a school trip in few days and I am so stressed they have not returned the passport back. Instead a caseworker said she advice me to contact passport office as his school trip is in few days. How can this offices be so careless? A letter was included in the envelope telling DWP that my son has a trip and his passport needs to be returned back urgently. Anyone had this experience. We are so stressed out and the cost and time is stressful

Hi,
Sorry to hear about this. It isn't so much about carelessness but the sheer volume of post and paperwork that they have to deal with. Your envelope is likely to be stuck in a pile with many others.
While you shouldn't have been put in this situation, I think the safest option is to get another passport to make sure your child can go on their trip. I wouldn't hold out much hope of the DWP returning it within a few days.

Hi,
Thank you so much. I just called the passport office and they explained to report the passport lost and then apply for a fast track which will be sent in few days by post 9over £200). I never thought such will happen and I am losing sleep over this. the trip already cost too much to then add a fee of the passport i never planned to replace. we are so worried but i think is best to just get a replacement.
I do not know if DWP will refund me such money back as is just waste. Money that could have been spent on something better.
I do not know if they return passport by recorded or special delivery. I wish i never sent it until after his school trip. i feel so annoyed with myself
