PIP reassessment

Hello! I have been on PIP since 2022 for my chronic condition. I was asked last year to complete the PIP forms again and I added that I've been diagnosed with OCD and ADHD too, I've now just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and impinged hips which have been agony.

My Mum said they won't take my ADHD and OCD seriously which I have no clue about but it does affect my life.

The woman at DWP said If id said my original condition has stayed the same I should have written no change on the form and I wouldn't be getting a reassessment but I am now.

I'm now nervous I'm going to ruin my entire claim by adding these in.

Does anyone have any experience with PIP and these conditions and the last question is how do I make sure they still give me pip for my original condition as there is no change in it.

Thank you!

Hi @Flateric. The important thing is how your condition affects you, not your diagnosis. The PIP forms used to have a box for 'no change', however that was scrapped and it's now advised to treat a review as a new claim so they have all the information they need to make a proper assessment.

You haven't ruined your claim by including your new diagnoses, please don't worry. Did you explain how they affect you?

Unfortunately, after a review even if there is no change to your condition they may take it away. You can then ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration and if unsuccessful, you can go to tribunal. Here's some more information for you https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/challenging-pip-or-other-benefits-decisions

I'm currently waiting for my PIP review to come back and I also worried about what to write. It's incredibly difficult to do, especially when no two days are the same. Rest assured that if they take it away that isn't the end. It's quite common to go through a Mandatory Reconsideration and even a tribunal. I've been through the entire process and found the tribunal the 'nicest' part (for want of a better word!) as I could speak to someone and clarify things there and then.

I hope this has eased your mind a bit. I completely understand how stressful it is.

Hold fast and when the time comes explain all of your difficulties and hopefully all will be okay. It is building up a better picture of your needs to inform them of all conditions.
