Knee surgery

Hi everyone, I’m 49 and seeing my consultant next week to discuss knee replacement. Not looking forward to surgery but I have an insufficiency fracture, osteonecrosis and degenerative meniscus tear, cysts and arthritis so surgery is inevitable. Anyone relate? Any advice or reassurance that surgery will be a positive?

Hi @Helenclaire and a warm welcome to the community from me!

I haven't had knee surgery before but we do have lots of members here on the community so hopefully some of them who have gone through will be able to relate to your post and offer some advice and support😊

I really hope the appointment with the consultant goes well next week, how are you feeling about it?

Thankyou so much. I’m quite worried but there is nothing else they can do now for me but replacement 😬

I hope the operation goes well @Helenclaire!! Have they said when you can expect it to happen?

If it is reassuring, I have a family member who had her knee replaced a few years ago and it definitely gave her a new lease of life as she's a lot more active and in a lot less pain now 😊

Thankyou for the reply. Yes I’m hoping it will improve my mobility. I have not a clue when surgery will be until I see the consultant next week. Originally he mentioned repairing the meniscus but now said knee replacement on my last appointment. I had to have another MRI so now based on them findings I guess it will be a full or partial replacement
