I haven't been active in the last few years, but I'm hoping to rejoin the community and make new friends. I love animals, books and logic puzzles.

My favourite animals are probably cats and dogs because those are the ones I meet most often. I think I could warm to a panda too if I had a chance. π I like Japanese number puzzles, logic stories, quiz shows etc. Anything really that challenges my brain. What about you?

I read a wide range of book genres, mainly general fiction, crime fiction, and non fiction on different subjects like society, health, philosophy etc. I've really enjoyed With the End in Mind by Kathryn Mannix which is a memoir by a palliative care doctor.

Good to have you back @MissMarple! We've been chatting loads recently about all different things in the Coffee Lounge and I'm sure you could find lots of new people to talk to, plus everyone who's replied here too! My husband loves logic puzzles, I prefer word-based puzzles. We do have a puzzle-a-day thing that I'm getting in to. I'm sharing a picture as I have no idea what it's called. As you can see, I haven't attempted it for a couple of days π

The dog is one I used to walk before my illness. If I remember correctly he was a bichon mix. Very sweet boy, always up for a walk.
I think I started reading The Wrong Sister, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm very fussy when it comes to books π For crime/thriller I love Jo Callaghan's series about Lock, the AI detective, also Steve Cavanagh's Eddie Flynn series, Anthony Horowitz Hawthorne books and loads of others. What kind of books do you like reading?

That puzzle looks diabolical π Is the aim to reveal the current date each day? I'm rubbish at spatial puzzles and get quickly frustrated. I love word-based or numerical puzzles, and those where you need to figure out a pattern or searching for clues to solve a mystery.

Exactly @MissMarple! It comes with a hint for each day that tells you where to put a couple of the pieces. I definitely couldn't do it without help. My husband has an even trickier one with more pieces and I gave up on that immediately π Have you tried an online escape room? You can do it on your computer and you solve clues to get to the end. There are lots of options to choose from. We've done a harry potter themed one, Sherlock Holmes, aliens and a murder! They're not too expensive and they get your brain working hard.

I've just googled that series, I'm very intrigued and the first book is only Β£3 on amazon. I don't think I've read anything with a big focus on AI before let alone a detective book so I think I may purchase on paydayπ
I quite like a psychological thriller book and I like Frieda McFadden and Lisa Jewell! Have you read those authors before?I also enjoy more literary contemporary fiction and I recently read Ruth Jones's new book and thought that was very good and funnyπ0 -
@Rachel_Scope I did an online escape room/treasure hunt once. I also attended a virtual murder mystery event - and failed spectacularly to solve anything. π I have a few escape room board games at home that we sometimes play with a friend. Have you had any luck with today's puzzle?

Unfortunately I don't have any pets @Mary_Scope I wouldn't be able to take care of them properly. Sometimes I have pets visiting, which is always a pleasure. It must be wonderful to have your own fluffball at home. π Do you have a picture of the gentleman?
I hope you'll like the Callaghan book. I think it's brilliant, bringing up questions about the capabilities and limitations of AI, and the ethical implications. It's also a very good crime novel in itself.
I think I read something by Lisa Jewell, ages ago. A book about a stalker/teacher?

The Lock series by Jo Callaghan was really impressive, I enjoyed reading those two books. And just a few days ago I finished Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer, after I read the 2nd in this series last year The Incredible Thing. Both I can recommend. And everything by Elly Griffiths.

I loved Rubbernecker! And The Beautiful Dead by BB @SmellyBin Sharon Bolton has a similar style in the Lacey Flint series if you haven't tried it yet.

This is him @MissMarple. His name is Snowy, we did try and rename him when we adopted him but it was too late, he only answered to Snowy so Snowy it was!!

Oooh you've got me even excited about the book now! I ordered it yesterday as a n early payday and it's meant to arrive tomorrow so I'm looking forward to hopefully starting it over the weekend. I'll definetly know how i find it @MissMarple @SmellyBin π
